• Blood Sciences

  The Department of Blood Sciences offers the widest range of in-house tests in North East England – we perform over 10 million tests every year.

• Blood Transfusion

  The Blood Transfusion laboratories provide a transfusion service to patients within the Newcastle Trust, hospices, community clinics and GPs as well as supporting GNAAS. The extensive test repertoire includes blood group and antibody screening, antibody investigations, isohaemagglutinin titration, phenotyping, antenatal serology including kleihauer, and compatibility testing (electronic and serological).

• Business Unit

  We provide business information for external users of the Laboratory at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

• Northern England Haemato-Oncology Diagnostic Service (NEHODS)

  The Northern England Haemato-Oncology Diagnostic Service (NEHODS) brings together expertise in flow cytometry, cytogenetics, molecular genetics and immunophenotyping to provide a multi-disciplinary haematological malignancies diagnostic service.

  Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) is laboratory testing or analyses performed in the clinical setting by non-laboratory healthcare professionals.
