Our services provide comprehensive, fully integrated, high quality clinical and laboratory services that help reduce morbidity associated with inherited medical conditions. We provide patients and other health professionals with the information necessary to facilitate decision making by individuals and families who have, or are at risk of, an inherited medical condition.
We are part of the Integrated Laboratory Medicine Directorate of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and operate from the Centre for Life and from a satellite location across the North East and Cumbria.

Newcastle Genetics Laboratory is part of the North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub (NEY GLH), genomic laboratory testing hubs provide genomic testing in the NHS through national testing networks. Genomic testing is delivered in accordance with the NHS England National Genomic Test Directory.
The genetics laboratory at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals provides both rare disease and cancer services.
Clinical Genetics
The Clinical Genetics Service provides clinical diagnostic and genetic counselling across the North East and Cumbria. Clinics are held in Newcastle, Carlisle, Sunderland and various locations around County Durham, Teesside and part of North Yorkshire, in addition to telephone and telemedicine appointments
