Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
The structure of von Willebrand factor in patients can be determined by electrophoresis of the plasma after treatment to break down the bonds in the molecule. This gives a ‘ladder’ effect with the multimers being shown as bands from the highest weight to the lowest weight. Absence of particular bands is used to confirm the type of vWD and sub-type the Type 2 disorders
