Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is a viral infection spread to humans by the bite of a tick. These can lead to a short flu-like illness for up to 8 days, however sometimes this develops into meningitis or encephalitis. Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) has become a growing public health concern in Europe and Asia and is the most important viral tick-borne disease in Europe. There are a variety of names including Japanese TBE, Far Eastern TBE, Russian TBE, Siberian TBE and European TBE. Testing will only be carried out on requests accompanied by a completed RIPL request form, including full travel details. Form is available at:
