Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Screening test for Cushing’s syndrome (usually late-night samples)
Specimen container paediatric:
Saliva (collected in Salivette or passively into plain plastic tube)
Specimen container adult:
Saliva (collected in Salivette or passively into plain plastic tube)
Minimum volume paediatric:
0.5 mL
Minimum volume adult:
0.5 mL
Special requirements:
Samples should usually be taken between 23:00 and midnight when screening for Cushing’s
Sample stability:
Store at -20°C
Reference ranges :
Morning <9.1 nmol/L
Late-night (23:00-00:00) <2.8 nmol/L
