Ribosomal antibodies are seen in 5-10% of patients with SLE. Their significance is not clear but they may be associated with an increased risk of neuropsychiatric complications.

Other info:
Ribosomal antibodies are detected on the ANA and Related antibodies (BioPlex) and the Liver Autoantibodies (IIF) assays. Ribosomal antibodies are generally reported as Positive or Negative as part of the ANA and Related antibodies assay but if seen on the Liver Autoantibodies assay, Ribosomal antibodies will be reported as a titre (dilution) at which the Ribosomal antibody is last seen as positive when seen on the Liver Autoantibodies assay. The absence of a specific comment on a report for Liver Autoantibodies indicates that ribosomal antibodies have not been detected. If ribosomal antibodies are specifically requested, a Negative result will be given when they are not detected.
