Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Pyruvate kinase deficiency is probably the most common single known cause of hereditary nonspherocytic haemolytic anaemia.

FBC and reticulocyte count must be performed and results sent with samples
Sample stability:
Samples must be received in the laboratory within 3 days of collection.
If there is a delay in sending store at 4°C and send a normal sample collected on the same day to act as a travel control.
