Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Protein S is one of the natural anticoagulants. It is a vitamin dependant plasma glycoprotein and is a co-factor to Protein C in the inactivation of Factors Va and VIIIa. Deficiencies in Protein S lead to an increased thrombotic risk. Protein S levels fall phsyioloigcally during pregancy. It is assayed as part of the Thrombophilia Screen
