Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Sensitive assay – For peadiatrics and oncology
Referred to another laboratory for mass spectrometry analysis. May be useful for measuring lower concentrations in paediatrics or in oncology for breast cancer patients to aid decision making between use of Tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitor treatment.
Avoids potential interference from breast cancer therapy e.g. oestrogen receptor antagonists.
