Clinical background:
Mycoplasma IgM antibodies are the first to be produced by the body in response to infection. Levels of IgM rise for a short time and then decline, but are often detectable in blood for several months. Mycoplasma IgM has a low sensitivity in adult patients where there has usually been prior infection in childhood, and is not considered useful.
