Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
The Multiplate ® analyser is used to determine the function of platelets in whole blood by impedance aggregometry. It can be used to detect platelet dysfunction and is a useful tool in the diagnosis and clinical management of patients with platelet function disorders. It can also be used to monitor patient’s response to antiplatelet drugs and assist with appropriate selection of antiplatelet therapies.
Specimen container paediatric:
1.6mL Hirudin tube (tubes provided by haematology laboratory on request)
Specimen container adult:
1.6mL Hirudin tube (tubes provided by haematology laboratory on request)
Minimum volume paediatric:
1.6mL
Minimum volume adult:
1.6mL
Special requirements:
Tube must be correctly filled to line, to ensure correct ratio of blood to anticoagulant, ensure adequate mixing. After collection, samples must be transported by hand to the laboratory ASAP (testing must be completed within 4 hours but laboratory aims to complete all testing within 2 hours of collection).
Sample stability:
4 hours
Transport requirements:
Samples should be transported to lab without delay
Do not
- samples should not be sent through the POD as it affects platelet activation
Freq analysis:
On request
Add on test:
[email protected] (external)
Quality assurance:
No current scheme available
Interpretation:
Sample timing is absolutely critical meaning that all requests should be coordinated with the laboratory BEFORE samples are taken.
Reference ranges:
Normal Area Under Curve (AUC) values
- ADP test 53 – 140 U
- ASPI test 86 – 162 U
- TRAP test 97 – 182 U
Factors affecting result :
Do not
- samples should not be sent through the POD as it affects platelet activation
