Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background :
We employ a number of methods such as Sanger sequencing, MassARRAY using mass spectrometry technology (MALDI-TOF – Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation – time of flight) and targeted PCR fragment analysis. These genomic changes can help in the diagnosis and prognosis of haematological malignancies. Molecular tests are requested by a consultant haematologist or histopathologist depending on the morphological or immunophenotypic results.
