Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Measles IgG is an indicator of previous measles virus infection or vaccination. It should be noted that the assay is not sensitive enough to confirm all cases of vaccine induced immunity. Immunocompetent patients with 2 documented doses of measles vaccination can be assumed to be immune without testing. Please note IgG assay can be affected by passively acquired antibody where blood products have been administered, or by maternally acquired antibodies in the first months of life.
