Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Abacavir is an antiviral agent used in conjunction with others in the treatment of HIV. Abacavir is generally well tolerated but can cause hypersensitivity in 5% to 8% of patients during the first 6 weeks of treatment. Hypersensitivity reaction to abacavir is strongly associated with the presence of the HLA-B*5701 allele
