Clinical background:
This is a serological assay used to detect antibodies to hepatitis B virus (HBV) e antigen. Used to help determine disease stage/activity in patients who have HBV infection. Automatically tested by the laboratory alongside e antigen in all new Hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) positive samples. Once a patient has seroconverted to hepatitis B e antibody, e-markers are only tested following specific request by the clinical team.
