Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Haptoglobin is a transport and acute phase protein which is synthesized in hepatocytes.Haptoglobin binds haemoglobin in a strong haptoglobin-haemoglobin complex (Hp-Hb), the haemoglobin resulting from pathologically elevated haemolysis. A reduction in the level of free haptoglobin is indicative of intravascular haemolysis.Indications for haptoglobin assays have been published and include the assessment of the severity and stage of intravascular haemolysis, evaluation of acute inflammatory processes and phenotype differentiation in paternity diagnostics.
