Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
This test is used to determine the exact type of fungus present when a dermatophyte fungal infection is suspected. Knowing the specific fungus involved helps determine the best treatment.
Specimen container paediatric:
Sample of skin flakes from edge of lesion, nail or hairs (pulled out with roots) in Dermatophyte Fungal Collection Kit (DERMAPAK).
Specimen container adult:

Minimum volume paediatric:
Several pieces, ideally up to 16 pieces.

Send to laboratory as quickly as possible. If delays likely, store at room temperature for up to 24 hours.
