Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Factor X (also known as Stuart-Prower Factor) is a vitamin K sensitive serine protease synthesised in the liver. It is a key component of the Haemostatic mechanism and is converted into its active form (Xa) by both Factor IX (with its co-factor Factor VIII) and by Factor VII. It acts on Prothrombin to give Thrombin, this process is optimal when Xa is complexed with the activated co-factor (Factor V). Both the PT and APTT are prolonged in Factor X deficiency.
