Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Factor VII (also known as Pro-convertin) is a vitamin K sensitive coagulation protein, that is synthesised in the liver. It’s role in the Haemostatic process is to initiate coagulation in conjunction with tissue factor (TF). It has the shortest half like of the coagulation serine proteases. Deficiency of Factor VII results in a Haemophilia like bleeding syndrome. The PT is prolonged but the APTT is normal in cases of Factor VII deficiency.
