Clinical background:
The chimerism investigation is carried out following haematopoietic stem cell transplants to monitor the proportion of host and donor DNA. Chimerism can be performed on whole blood or marrow or selected cells (CD15 for myeloid cells or CD3 for T-cells) and helps determine response to transplantation and level of engraftment. The results can help inform use of donor lymphocyte infusions.
