Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Chikungunya is a travel-associated viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes. It causes fever and severe joint pain, but can cause a range of symptoms. Other symptoms include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rash. IgM antibody levels are highest three to five weeks after the onset of illness and persist for about two months. Samples must be accompanied by a completed RIPL request form, including full travel details.
