Turnaround times

Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Used in the treatment of some haematological malignancies. The patient’s haematopoietic system is stimulated to produce stem cells that are released from the bone marrow into the peripheral blood circulation. The peripheral blood predictive CD34 stem cell count provided by flow cytometry is used to guide the best timing for apheresis. This procedure may be repeated daily until a clinically significant yield is achieved for transplantation to take place.
