Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody (CCP) is currently seen as a more specific marker for the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis than rheumatoid factor.

Interpretation:
Anti-CCP antibodies are detected very early in the disease and facilitate the identification of patients for early therapeutic intervention. It is not thought that anti-CCP antibodies are useful in monitoring rheumatoid arthritis.
