Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Used to diagnose neurosarcoidosis (complication of sarcoidosis, in which inflammation occurs in the brain, spinal cord and other areas of the nervous system). Sarcoidosis is a disease involving abnormal collections of inflammatory cells that form lumps known as granulomas.Increased amounts of ACE often correlate to the presence of granulomas secondary to sarcoidosis. About 50 to 80 % of patients with active sarcoidosis will have elevated levels of ACE.
