Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Alpha 2 antiplasmin (or plasmin inhibitor) is a serine protease inhibitor responsible for inactivating plasmin (an important enzyme in the Fibrinolytic system). As plasmin is generated to degrade blood clots, impaired inhibition leads to a bleeding tendency which was severe in the rare congenital cases reported. In liver cirrhosis there is decreased production of A2A, leading to decreased inactivation of plasmin and an increase in Fibrinolysis, which is associated with an increased risk of bleeding in liver disease
