Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Detection of acute and/or recent exposure to alcohol.

White universal container, random urine, sent to lab immediately

Sample stability:
Sample is stable for 2 weeks at 25°C, 3 months at 5°C and 6 months at -15°C.

Interpretation:
Alcohol (ethanol) is not normally present in urine of subjects who have abstained from ingestion.
