Turnaround times
The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.
Clinical background:
Strongyloidiasis is caused by the nematode (roundworm) Strongyloides stercoralis. Definite diagnosis may be difficult unless larvae are seen in the stool however Antibody detection tests for strongyloidiasis are indicated when the infection is suspected and the organism cannot be demonstrated by microscopic identification. Immunocompromised people with disseminated strongyloidiasis usually have detectable IgG antibodies despite their immunodepression
