Clinical background:
This is a serological assay used to detect IgG antibodies to Parvovirus B19. It is used to provide evidence of PAST parvovirus B19 infection and hence immunity. IgG antibodies are produced during acute infection and persist life long. Its main use is to determine immune status in pregnant women in contact with individuals with rash. Please note IgG assay can be affected by passively acquired antibody where blood products have been administered, or by maternally acquired antibodies in the first months of life.
